Ran Out of Gas
in Cape Coral?
Here's Your Next Move
Running out of gas is one of those things that always happens at the worst time — in the middle of the Midpoint Bridge, on a stretch of Pine Island Road with no station in sight, or late at night when everything is closed. It's more common than you think, and the fix is simpler than most people realize.
The Moment Your Car Runs Out of Gas
When a car runs out of fuel, you'll typically notice the engine sputtering, losing power, and then cutting out entirely. The car doesn't stop instantly — it coasts. Use that momentum to get as far off the road as safely possible. Activate your hazard lights immediately.
Once stopped in a safe location, assess your surroundings. If you're on a busy highway or unsafe area, stay in your vehicle with your seatbelt on and doors locked while you call for help.
Walking along Florida highways with traffic is dangerous. Gas in a container can also be hazardous to carry on foot. The safe and fast move is to call for fuel delivery and wait.
How Emergency Fuel Delivery Works
When you call Roadside Help, we bring enough fuel to get you to the nearest gas station — typically 2–3 gallons. This isn't a full tank; it's a rescue. Here's what you tell us when you call:
- Your exact location (share your GPS pin if you can)
- What type of fuel your car takes (gasoline or diesel — very important!)
- Your vehicle's make and model
We dispatch immediately and get to you as fast as possible. No waiting for a tow, no long hold queues, no ridiculous fees.
Gasoline vs. Diesel — Don't Mix Them Up
This is critical. If you have a diesel vehicle, you must receive diesel fuel — not gasoline. Putting gasoline in a diesel engine (even a small amount) can cause serious, expensive engine damage. Always confirm your fuel type before we arrive.
How to Avoid Running Out of Gas in the Future
- Never let the tank drop below a quarter. The fuel pump is cooled by the gasoline around it — running on empty shortens its life.
- Reset your trip meter every fill-up so you know approximately how many miles you've driven since your last fill.
- Don't trust your range estimator completely — it's an estimate, not a guarantee.
- Keep a list of gas stations on your regular routes, especially if you drive remote areas of Lee County.
